Named by none other than Oprah herself, Godmothers officially opened its doors

On Saturday, September 7th, Meghan Markle was spotted reconnecting with her close friend and fellow Santa Barbara County resident, Oprah Winfrey, at a newly opened bookstore called Godmothers. Located just a short distance from Meghan and Prince Harry’s Montecito home, Meghan attended a talk where Oprah interviewed author Shaka Senghor. Later, Meghan herself took to the microphone, as captured in a photo shared on Instagram.

Godmothers, founded by author Victoria Jackson and literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, opened its doors this weekend. The bookstore, which also features a café, highlights a curated selection of books from local authors, including Meghan’s own children’s book, The Bench, and Harry’s memoir, Spare, both of which were featured prominently in the store.

In July 2020, Meghan and Harry settled into their Montecito home, a serene enclave favored by celebrities. Their two children, Archie and Lilibet, attend nearby schools, and according to a source, the couple has no plans to send their kids to school in the UK, given the security concerns Harry has voiced about his family’s safety. “Montecito is home now," the source said. "Meghan and Harry are deeply involved parents and can’t imagine sending Archie away when the family remains rooted in the U.S.”
