Lavish Santa Barbara Estate Strikes a Chord With Nashville Songwriter

Back in February, Shane McAnally told The New York Times he had been busy shopping for a California home. Now records reveal the country singer-turned-songwriter — best known for co-penning chart-topping anthems for the likes of Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban and Sam Hunt, among others — has settled on a new residence, having picked up a grand Italianate-style villa in the Hope Ranch enclave adjacent to Santa Barbara.

First listed in October of last year for $14.5 million, records show the property sold to the couple in mid-April for a discounted $13.5 million. Built in 2006 — and affectionately known as “Casa Luminosa” — the two-story house has five bedrooms and five baths, all on a 1.5-acre parcel sporting a private gate leading to the 300-acre More Mesa Open Space boasting nature paths and a remote beach.

Nestled behind gates and a spacious motorcourt, the creamy stucco and terracotta-roof structure greets with an impressive double-height entry foyer clad in black-and-white checkerboard tile, which flows to a formal living room anchored by a stone fireplace. Other main-level highlights include a sizable great room holding a fireside family room, dining area, and marble-backsplash kitchen flaunting a pricey AGA range and an eat-in island. French doors spill out to a garden terrace, which is ideal for entertaining guests with a fireplace and built-in barbecue.

A swanky curved staircase heads upstairs, where five en-suite bedrooms include an opulent master retreat that rests beneath a particularly eye-catching vaulted ceiling, and comes complete with a cozy fireplace, private balcony overlooking mountain vistas, and deluxe bath appointed with dual vanities, a soaking tub and glass-encased shower.

An additional guest suite away from the other bedrooms has its own balcony and private entrance; and outdoors, the resort-like backyard is laced with mature fruit trees and formal gardens, and chockfull of amenities ranging from a pool and pond, to a greenhouse and an oversized chess set. There’s also an attached three-car garage, and access to Hope Ranch amenities that include a private security patrol, private beach access, tennis courts and horse trails.

In addition to McAnally’s recently acquired Hope Ranch spread, the Texas native also maintains a impressive house in Nashville he’s owned since 2014.
